General Information
This Winter School aims to provide junior photonics researchers with an overview of the photonics markets and some key business aspects associated with these markets and photonics entrepreneurship. The training consists of three parts.
- The first part is aimed at junior researchers and professionals with a limited background in business economics and provides them with an introduction to the basic disciplines that all entrepreneurs and managers will encounter in developing their business, e.g. strategy, marketing, funding…
- The second part covers several sectors or cases in which photonics plays an enabling role. The European Photonics Ecosystem will be presented and business cases relevant to FINESSE will be discussed. Photonics entrepreneurs & professionals will share their ideas and experiences with the audience.
- The third part of the training provides entrepreneurship guidance to FINESSE’s junior researcher. In a team, they will learn how to refine a business concept and prepare an investor pitch.
Attendees will receive a certificate of attendance, which can be changed to ECTS credits, as well as on-line access to all course material. This course lasts for 5 entire days, and will also include 1 social event.
The price of the training event is 200€. The training event includes a welcome reception, lectures by Professors and industrial partners, lunches and coffee breaks, and a social evening event.

The winter school will take place in the premises of our project partner CommScope in Leuven, Belgium from 10th -14th of December 2018.

How to reach the Venue

Leuven is easily accessible by a direct train from the airport (13 minutes). Check the train schedules here. The access to the company requires a visitor card and this card needs to be prepared by CommScope at least one week before the start of the event to speed up the registration on the first day and will be based on the list of registered participants. That is why we want to stress the importance of registering yourself via the registration tool provided by EPFL.
